MEET THE BOARD

Sameer Ahmed, J.D.

Board Chairman

Sameer Ahmed, J.D. received his B.S. in Biology from Southern Methodist University and his J.D. from South Texas College of Law. He began his legal career in McAllen, Texas, but returned to the DFW area to establish The Ahmed Firm, PLLC, where he currently represents many diverse North Texas businesses in transactional and litigation matters. His genuine concern for the local community’s well-being has inspired his service on the Board of Directors of the Multicultural Alliance in Fort Worth. As a Board member at MCC-HS, Sameer is responsible for the agency’s overall legal oversight.

Dr. Asra Khan

VICE CHAIRMAN

Dr. Asra Khan received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Texas Woman’s University. She currently works at the Richland Oaks Counseling Center in Richardson, where she takes a family systems approach to dealing with many types of problems, including those related to multicultural issues. In addition to serving as an adjunct professor, Dr. Khan has spent the last decade providing non-profit communities with her expertise in counseling. Because she feels that bringing together people of diverse faiths for dialogue and increased understanding is of paramount importance, she also serves as a board member and the presiding chair of the Multicultural Alliance of Texas. Having lived on three continents, she is well acquainted with balancing culturally and religiously diverse environments, and fully understands the unique challenges and opportunities that such an identity expresses.

Tawfiq Hassan

Secretary

Tawfiq Hassan is an experienced business development personnel with 30+ years proven history in working in the management consulting industry, He enjoys customer service, strategic planning, business development, and team building. As a roadrunner from The University of Texas at San Antonio he thoroughly enjoy working for charitable foundations.

Ismail Tahir

TREASURER, Board of Directors

Recipient of excellence and service award at MCC’s 25th annual celebration in November 2021, Ismail Tahir has been serving on the MCC Board for the last two decades. A CPA by profession, Ismail has been involved in several initiatives at the MCC and was a part of the organization when it was starting up. His commitment to serve on the MCC Board is not just a testament to his heart for Social Services, but it is symbolic of what an ideal board member’s engagement with a nonprofit organization looks like.

Abdul Munis received his medical degree from the University of Karachi’s Dow Medical College and moved to the US with his family more than 25 years ago. Dr. Munis trained at Michigan state University where he later served as the Chief Resident of Internal Medicine. He has extensive work experience in In-Patient and Out-Patient Practices and currently works with Baylor Grapevine as a Hospitalist and Medical Director of Hospice. Dr Munis is a part of many philanthropic and mentorship activities including guiding physicians with his Alma Mater. Giving back to the community is an integral part of his values.

Akram Syed holds an MS in Computer Science from Southern Methodist University. An IT executive, he currently works as the President and Managing Director of Accelore Solutions in Richardson, Texas, where he specializes in strategy and business development. A long-time member of the Board of Directors at MCC-HS, Akram provides business and philanthropic oversight for the agency.

Arshad Majid, JD, MBA, received his BS in Biology and Marine Biology from Stony Brook University, his MBA in Economics and Finance from St. John's University Graduate School of Business Administration, and his Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law. He is Adjunct Professor of Law at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and the Touro Law Center in New York, and is the principal attorney at Majid & Associates, P.C.. He is also lead trial counsel at Midwest Legal Group. Prior to forming the law firms and entering academia, Mr. Majid worked as an Assistant District Attorney and prosecutor for New York State. He is a frequent lecturer on legal, political, and social issues, and has delivered many key-note presentations worldwide. He currently serves as an advisor to several local and national organizations.

Aziz Budri is an Afghan native and U.S. citizen, living in Colleyville, Texas, with a M.A in Political Science from the University of Iowa. He founded Afghan Unity and Islamic Association of Texas as Co-founder and President. He is recognized as an expert on Afghanistan by Federal Courts, and is a frequent mediaspeaker on issues related to Afghanistan

Barry Klompus, B.A., was raised near Chicago, received his BBA from the University of Arizona Eller College of Management, and relocated to the DFW area in 1981. The owner and broker of Elder Tree Realty in Bedford, Barry has served on the Board of Directors of several nonprofits, including the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce (CCOC). He has organized food, clothing, and blood drives, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and chaired multiple fundraisers. He has worked with GRACE and the Community Enrichment Center food pantry, developed many programs, and served on numerous committees, earning the CCOC’s Member of the Year and Chairman’s Awards. He helps facilitate Interfaith Dialogues (IFD) for the Multicultural Alliance., promoting greater understanding of the importance of religious pluralism and intercultural understanding. He also serves as a Trustee for Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville and is Chair of their Social Action/ Social Justice Committee.

Dr. Saadia Basit graduated from Boston University’s Goldman School of Dentistry in 2003. After owning a dental practice in Colorado, she moved to Pakistan for 6 years, where she practiced as a dental surgeon and was active in the Rotary Club of Islamabad. She has lived in the Dallas area since 2012, and currently works as the lead dentist for Monarch Dental in McKinney, where she considers the staff to be her second family. She has two sons and enjoys gardening. She says, “I like helping people in need in whatever capacity I can. I feel we all are too busy in this life and doing little to create a beautiful home in the afterlife.”

Joseph Green-Bishop began a life in media and print publications after studying law at North Carolina Central University School of Law.A former editor for the Afro-American Newspaper in Baltimore, he was also a staff writer for the Washington Post, the Georgia Gazette and the Atlanta Journal Newspapers.The author or editor of seven books, he and his wife, Trudi, a financial project manager, reside in Euless, Texas.

Naeem Choudhry has more than 28 years of volunteer experience. He has worked for over 25 years as an IT Consultant. He is the founding member and former vice president of Pakistan American Association of Texas (PAAT) and served Pakistan Society of North Texas (PSNT) in different capacities over twelve years. Currently, he is the founding member and President of Pakistan Community Services (PCS), Board of Director of American Pakistani Public Affair Committee (APPAC), and a long-time member of the Board of Directors at MCC-HS.

Ramon Flanigan is a native Texan who graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.S. in Economics. While on the SMU football team, he became the first player to be honored as a CFA Good Works Team All-American, and was the school’s all-time leader in total offense and touchdowns. After playing pro he pursued his career as a Professional Coach, for the University of North Texas, Mississippi Valley State University, Lamar University, and Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. With a passion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, he continues to commit time to serving the marginalized communities as an advocate and supporter. He  has served in a number of volunteer roles for the Salvation Army, the Boys and Girls Club of Denison, and the Bethlehem Center Partnership Food Pantry. Coach Flanigan is currently the Director of External Affairs for the SMU Football Program, where he leads engagement efforts for current and former players.

Sumbel Zeb earned BA degrees in Political Science from Hofstra University and Southern Methodist University, and an MS degree from the University of North Texas (UNT) in Interdisciplinary Studies, Public Administration, Political Science, and Journalism. A paralegal and freelance political strategist, she currently serves as the Director of District Projects for the office of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. Sumbel has volunteered as an ESL instructor for Catholic Charities, and as the Philanthropy chair for the UNT Public Administration Student Association. As a Board member at MCC-HS, Sumbel oversees public relations

Wasiq Zaidi graduated from Nishtar Medical College in Pakistan in 1988. He currently works as a psychiatrist in the Arlington and Ft. Worth areas. A long-time member of the Board of Directors, Wasiq serves as current Chairman of the Board and provides oversight for all aspects of operations at MCC-HS.

Kamri Brown: As a Jackson State Alum, Kamri Brown is making a significant impact in her role as the Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for the Dallas Mavericks' Mavs Take ACTION! Team. Her focus on addressing racial inequities, promoting social justice, and driving sustainable change in the Dallas-Fort Worth area highlights her dedication to creating positive change within underprivileged communities.

Kamri's background in developing community initiatives and creating platforms for unheard voices demonstrates her commitment to amplifying the voices of those who may not have been heard otherwise. Building bridges between community members and the Dallas Mavericks showcases her ability to facilitate meaningful connections and collaborations that can lead to positive outcomes.

Her work has not gone unnoticed, as her strengths in Diversity and Inclusion and Authenticity have been recognized. This recognition underscores the effectiveness of her approach and the impact she's making within the organization and the community.

Prior to her role with the Dallas Mavericks, Kamri's experience in creating a sports leadership program for high school girls in Costa Rica highlights her global perspective and her dedication to empowering the next generation of leaders. This experience showcases her commitment to creating positive change beyond her immediate surroundings.

Sofia “Michelle” Ansari , LL.B. received her B.A. in Philosophy from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She completed her LL.B. From the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Michelle is a Barrister & Solicitor, licensed member of the Bar of Ontario under the Law Society of Upper Canada. She commenced her practice of law in her hometown of Ottawa, the capital city of Canada. Her area of practice has been Public/ Administrative law, as a Federal Government of Canada legal consultant for the Pension Appeals Board and the Office of Commissioner of Review Tribunals.

Michelle has a particular interest in community diversity, bridge building and strengthening relations between Muslim communities and secular society. She is focussed on efforts to break stereotypes, promote evidence-based, truth narratives through action and interaction, and to 
showcase Muslim women as a driving force of socio-economic change in education and social welfare. This has inspired her to serve on the Board of AAMAAL, Muslim Women for Empowerment.

MCC for Human Services aligns with her genuine interest and concern for community at large, given its ongoing mission to provide health services and resources to refugee, uninsured and underinsured populations in the DFW metroplex - a prevailing issue on the rise.
Her extracurriculars have included the Dallas Opera Guild, the Canada Club of North Texas, Canadian Women’s Dinner Club, various non-profits such as the North Texas Latin Physicians Association, and meetups with a long-standing group of friends of the original Dallas Yoga Center.
She married her U.S. raised husband and moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, finally settling in the DFW area.

Sadia Malik, MD is a pediatric cardiologist and Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern . She serves as the Director for Pediatric Cardiovascular Genetics and Director of Preventive Cardiology at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

Dr. Malik earned her medical degree at the Aga Khan University in Pakistan. She completed a residency in pediatrics at the UT Health Science Center at Houston and gained advanced training through a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at UT Southwestern

Dr. Malik is a Pediatric Cardiology consultant reviewer for the Texas Department of Health and a consultant reviewer for the Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health Dr. Malik also serves as an ad hoc reviewer for a variety of journals, including Circulation, the American Journal of Cardiology, and Pediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology.

Dr. Malik has lectured widely and published many peer-reviewed articles and case reports related to her areas of expertise. Her research focus is the genetic causes of congenital heart disease.

Dr. Malik is the point person for Medicaid and Medicare compliance, grant submissions and will also assist MCC with the medical and dental clinic.

Dr. Basheer Ahmed, founder of MCC, has served in different capacities, executive director, chairman of the board and chairman emeritus. He will be the Senior Advisor to the board of directors.
