MCC operates a 24-hour telephone counseling and referral service- HELPLINE. This service is primarily for non-emergency calls. A volunteer or a paid employee assists in the caller’s need. Most of the callers, who seek medical help are referred to private physicians or Al-Shifa Clinic if they do not have insurance. In serious cases, most of the patients are referred to local public hospitals. The callers also seek help in finding jobs, discussing legal issues, family problems, and even directions to the mosque, or Muslim bookstores. The calls are referred to the staff or board members, who handle specific areas such as: Job opportunities, legal help, domestic violence issues, or help in dealing with Child Protective Agencies. Calls related to financial assistance are referred to local Islamic centers, as MCC does not have funds for charitable distributions.
